Mini - New Musical Workshop Performance

Students on our BA (Hons) Musical Theatre Performance degree programme have the opportunity to workshop and be a part of the development process for new musicals, working directly with the writers and creating original roles. The initiative is led by Course Leader Andrew Wright, working with the support of partner companies Mercury Musical Development and Musical Theatre Network. The rehearsal process takes place on Bishop Otter Campus with the culmination of the week being a live performance of the workshopped material on Saturday 6th February at 7:30pm in The Chapel.MiniMINI: THE BOY WHO DISCOVERED FIRE is a new stage musical about charismatic child arsonist Michael 'Mini' Cooper, based on his memoir Mini & Me. It's also the story of an unlikely friendship that has endured five decades. Eleven-year-old Michael 'Mini' Cooper was living in a school for 'maladjusted children' in County Durham when he became the focus of Franc Roddam's 1975 BBC documentary, Mini: Inside Story. With a vibrant score mixing glam rock, folk rock and verbatim musical styles, the show pits the effervescent Mini against a chorus of social workers, psychiatrists and prison wardens as he battles the farcical cruelty of Britain's institutions, finding himself - and the mercurial pleasures that life brings - along the way.Mini and Franc are friends to this day.We are delighted to be enabling the research and development of this new British musical. For further updates please follow our social media channels:
