Second of two unforgettable evenings with the Orchestra of St John'sFor over half a century, Orchestra of St John's (OSJ) has earned a reputation for performances of exceptional warmth, intimacy and expressive power under the direction of John Lubbock OBE. Alongside its acclaimed concerts, the orchestra has become equally renowned for its leading outreach work, particularly its pioneering Music for Autism programme, which brings professional live music into specialist schools across the UK, reaching thousands of autistic children and young people every year. These two concerts celebrate both aspects of this remarkable orchestra: an evening devoted to the great Romantic repertoire, followed by a unique collaboration with the extraordinary pianist Derek Paravicini, whose long association with OSJ has become an inspiring symbol of music's power to communicate and connect.Derek Paravicini: A Remarkable Partnership Saturday 30 January 2027 | 7.30pmThe second concert celebrates OSJs long-standing musical partnership with the extraordinary pianist Derek Paravicini.
Blind, autistic and having severe learning difficulties, Derek is widely regarded as one of the world's most remarkable musical talents. Equally at home in classical music, jazz and improvisation, his astonishing musical memory and instinctive artistry have captivated audiences around the globe.Derek joins the orchestra in Arensky's Variations on a Theme by Tchaikovsky, Jeremy Lubbock's Moods, written especially for Derek, and Astor Piazzolla's hauntingly beautiful Oblivion, and concluding with Tchaikovsky's glorious Serenade for Strings. Along the way, Derek will also invite audiences into his extraordinary musical world: taking requests, transforming familiar tunes and recreating music after hearing it just once. It is a joyful, uplifting experience that has to be seen to be believed.ProgrammeArensky Variations on a Theme by Tchaikovsky
