Nature Writing Workshop With James Mcdermott

In this interactive, inclusive workshop for writers of all experiences, through a series of group discussions and individual writing exercises, you will learn tools and techniques to help you write creatively about wildness, nature and ecology.By the end of the workshop, you will have the start of several ideas you can then further develop.This event is free to attend but booking in advance is encouraged.The workshop will be delivered by local writer James McDermott whose poetry collections include Father Myself and Wild Life, which "explores the nature of queerness and queerness of nature".

His plays published by Samuel French include It Comes In Waves, Jab, Time & Tide and Rubber Ring.James has written multiple episodes of EastEnders and Doctor Who audio drama for Big Finish.

James is an Arvon writing tutor and lecturer in creative writing at the University of East Anglia.Participants are welcome to bring their own writing materials, though paper, pens and pencils will be provided by the library.This activity is brought to you as part of our Wild Reads 2026 programme.
