A Closer Look at: How Photography became Art. Wednesday 19th November 2026 at 7pmThis Talk looks at some iconic photographs of the 20th century and discusses how photography came to be seen as more than just the recording of historical moments in time.We shall look at how in the early 20th century the painters practice informed the photograph but also how painters learnt to borrow ideas and effects from early photographs. Although at first artists and critics were sceptical about whether photography could be art because the
images were made by a machine and it was felt that the photograph could not be considered as equal to drawing and painting. Today most of us recognise that photography has its own unique creative uses and styles and in museums and galleries. Photography is firmly
established as an art. This talk is given by Fiona James, lecturer in art and art history.Advance tickets: Adult 10.00 Student/Under 18 years 8.00 On the door on the night they will cost 12.00 and 10.00
