Beginners basketry workshop: round baskets

This hands-on willow basket workshop introduces participants to the fundamentals of traditional West Country basket-making.

Using a prepared, pre-woven base, you will be guided through the main structural stages of creating a functional round basket.

Youll learn how to stake up the structure, weave the sides, and finish with a simple track border, using techniques inspired by local basket-making practices.The session is suitable for complete beginners and offers a relaxed, supportive introduction to working with willow.

Each stage is taught step by step, with plenty of time for hands-on making, questions, and quiet moments of weaving.

Alongside practical skills, the workshop also touches on the cultural and material history of basketry as a living, working craft.The workshop runs from 10am to 2:30pm, with a short break for lunch.

Tea and coffee is included in your ticket and provided throughout the workshop, but participants are asked to bring their own lunch.
