Skills You'll LearnHow to use our Bandsaw, Chopsaw, Pillar Drill and Disc and Bobbin SanderAbout the CourseThis one-day session introduces you to a range of wood-working tools and equipment, which you can then use to make your own kitchen chopping board.The first part of the day serves as an introduction to the Machine Shop workshop, providing guidance on the safe use of workshop machinery, such as the chopsaw, bandsaw, pillar drill, disc and bobbin sander.Following a talk on different types and uses of hardwood, you’ll then be able to select your material from our onsite timber store and design your very own chopping board.

With support and guidance from the tutor, you’ll then use our workshop equipment to make your object - providing you with a beautiful, personalised project to take home with you!As a great bonus, this course includes our workshop Level 1 Induction, meaning that you will automatically be able to book a workbench and use Blackhorse Workshop in the future.AccessibilityPlease note at this time Studio 2 has no step-free access and has three flights of stairs up to the Workshop Room.We have a hearing loop available.DisclaimerIn using the workshop, you understand that the use of all tools and machinery belonging to Blackhorse Workshop is at your own risk.In making a course booking, it is your responsibility to read the full course description and abide by the guidelines given.

If the course requires a Health and Safety Induction and you have not taken the relevant course, we reserve the right to remove you from the course.Appropriate and adequate clothing must be worn in the workshop.

Sturdy shoes / boots must be worn, no trainers.

No shorts and no synthetic fabrics to be worn in metalwork, cotton, wool and leather only.Students must follow Blackhorse Workshop Health and Safety guidance at all times.

If you fail to follow these instructions you may be asked to leave the course.People with long term respiratory conditions should be aware that the workshop is a dusty environment that may impact their health.If you are pregnant or think you might be pregnant we recommend consulting a health professional before taking part in welding or blacksmithing.Please note that refunds and course transfers are available up to 1 week before start date.
