In his forty-year career, stonemason and writer Andrew Ziminski has worked on many of our greatest monuments. From the sacred - Neolithic monoliths, Roman temples, small parish churches and cathedrals - to the industrial, the engine houses, mills and aqueducts of the Industrial Revolution and beyond.Part archaeological history and part deeply personal insight into an ancient craft, Andrew's talk will reveal his favourite projects - those historical buildings that inform our landscape and link the past to the present.Andrew is a former SPAB Trustee, a William Morris Craft Fellow, a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries, and a specialist advisor to the Salisbury Diocesan Advisory Committee for the care of Churches.
His first book The Stonemason was critically acclaimed. His latest title Church Going was a 'Book of the Year' in The Times, The Telegraph, The Church Times, and BBC History Magazine.'Joyous and illuminating' - Sir Tony Robinson.This is an in-person event at Tintern Village Hall. Refreshments will be available. There is disabled access, loos and limited free parking within the grounds, but parking along the main road (A466) is unrestricted after 6pm.This talk is run by theLower Wye Valley Building Preservation Trust, a volunteer charity which is purchasing St Marys, Tintern a picturesque Grade II listed landmark ruin above Tintern Abbey which is seriously at risk.
