Brahms's Academic Festival Overture gets the evening off to a suitably celebratory start, weaving together a number of student drinking songs into a brilliantly spirited orchestral party. From there, the mood turns more mysterious and reflective with Schubert's haunting Unfinished Symphony, before Brahms's glorious Second Symphony brings the evening to a warm and triumphant close.
