However, for centuries the town was at the centre of national and regional events.

With this role came unrest, much of it with violent consequences.Enjoy stories from the 1100s when the Abbey ruled every aspect of our lives, and onwards through the turbulent events of the next seven centuries during which the headline Bury Stirs was coined.

Even within the last 100 years, Bury has stirred more than once.You will be surprised at how volatile the towns history has been and how that was expressed - tragic and violent tales mixed with the just plain comical.
