Portland-based novelist and The Delines musician Willy Vlautin talks to Rónán Hession about his moving new novel The Left and the Lucky.
A large-hearted story of vulnerability and unlikely connection, it follows Eddie Wilkens, a solitary house painter trying to take life one day at a time, whose quiet world is changed when eight-year-old Russell, a neglected neighbour, begins to drift into his care.
As Eddie attempts to steady a child caught in a precarious home life, a fragile bond forms, exploring what it means to protect, to fail and to keep going.
The conversation will be followed by a short solo performance of music by Willy Vlautin.
There is a book signing after this event.
