About
Portraiture is one of the oldest genres in art history, going back, at least, to ancient Egypt.
Portraiture is one of the oldest genres in art history, going back, at least, to ancient Egypt. Even in the period of the ubiquitous selfie, a painted portrait still has the capability to portray more than just the likeness of a person. It can used to show the power, importance, virtue, beauty, wealth, culture and even the psychology of a sitter often set within a wider cultural and social context. The genre is so much more than just painting pretty faces.
This exhibition brings together four Scottish portrait painters – Imogen Alabaster, Ross Miller, Graeme Wilcox and, new to the gallery, Drew Thomson.
