Queer Ecology Cyanotype Printing Workshop

Back by popular demand, and in celebration of Pride Month, join Queer Ecologist Connor Butler for a hands-on cyanotype printmaking workshop celebrating the diversity of nature through art.Developed in the 1840s, cyanotype is an early photographic process that uses sunlight to create striking blue-and-white botanical prints.

By arranging pressed plants onto light-sensitive paper, you’ll craft your own unique artworks to take home.As we create, we’ll explore the fascinating world of plants that challenge traditional categories-sex-changing trees, non-binary flowers, and species that defy rigid life cycles.

Connor will share how these plants have been used as symbols within the LGBTQ+ community and uncover their deep-rooted queer connections in science, culture, and mythology.
