About

Walks to Wellbeing are designed suitable for people wanting an introduction to the inspirational landscapes of Northumberland National Park.

Walks to Wellbeing are designed suitable for people wanting an introduction to the inspirational landscapes of Northumberland National Park. Whilst more challenging than urban walks, our friendly leaders have chosen easier routes and will walk at a pace suitable for all. We will pause frequently to appreciate the landscape, and on this walk we will be joined by an expert guide to help us appreciate the curlews. This walk takes in some of the most photographed sections of Hadrians Wall. Despite the popularity of the locality, it remains a focus for wildlife. We will walk close to ground where Curlew, the emblem of Northumberland National Park, habitually nest. We hope to see, or at least hear, this iconic bird. The walk starts from The Sill Landscape Discovery Centre. We cross the military road and walk uphill on a tarmac roadside path before joining the military way to Sycamore Gap. From there we follow the Hadrians Wall trail to Hotbank for superb views. Leaving the Wall, we soon arrive at the protected landscapes north of Crag Lough. The walk then continues past Peat Rigg to Steel Rigg and returns to The Sill. There will be time at the end to enjoy the Exhibitions and refreshment facilities of The Sill.Everything you need to know
