Internationally acclaimed artist Dian Kostov brings A Mother's Warmth to the city for the first time.
The exhibition will transform one of Liverpool's most iconic landmarks through a series of immersive installations, contemporary artworks and symbolic visual experiences exploring tenderness, care and the enduring human need for connection.
Dedicated to the quiet forces that preserve our humanity in times of division, fear and loss, A Mother's Warmth invites visitors to reflect on the role of compassion, protection and love in shaping both individual lives and communities.
Through a combination of contemporary installation art, spirituality and psychological insight, the exhibition creates an immersive and deeply personal experience, encouraging audiences to consider the choices that define who we are and the world we create together.
Developed alongside psychotherapist Milena Tashkova, the project explores the relationship between emotional resilience, empathy and reconciliation. Drawing on psychological perspectives around care, responsibility and human connection, the exhibition examines how acts of kindness and understanding can become powerful forces for healing and renewal.
Artist Dian Kostov said: “In a world often shaped by conflict and uncertainty, it is compassion that reminds us of our shared humanity. A Mother's Warmth is an invitation to reflect on the relationships, values and choices that bring us closer together and help us build a more hopeful future.”
The exhibition forms part of a unique dual-city project taking place simultaneously across the UK. Alongside A Mother's Warmth at Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral, a connected exhibition, Crossroad – The Price of Choice: Peace Is Not Given, will be presented at Manchester Cathedral.
Together, the two exhibitions create a shared journey through destruction and hope, pain and compassion, asking one essential question: What kind of world do we choose to create?
Born in Bulgaria, Dian Kostov is internationally recognised for pushing the boundaries of contemporary iconography and installation art. His work has been exhibited across Europe and internationally, including major installations in Florence, Vienna and Brussels, where Crossroad – The Price of Choice transformed the National Basilica of the Sacred Heart.
Presented in Liverpool for the first time, A Mother's Warmth offers audiences a unique opportunity to experience thought-provoking work that combines contemporary art, spirituality and psychology within one of the city's most significant cultural and religious spaces.
