Are you interested in what a local farm can grow to feed the city?Lauriston Farm in north Edinburgh is a very large urban farm - one of only three in the UK over 60 acres. Over the last five years, we have been reviving it as a place to grow food, and a resource for local people and wildlife. The north Edinburgh community has embraced the chance to take on allotment plots, sign up for Community Supported Agriculture, learn landwork skills, and take care of the land.As the seasons change, it’s time to take stock of the 2026 harvest - join us on a farm tour to hear about what we grew, what we learned, and what could happen next. There are four tours on this date, with staggered start times - pick your start time when you buy tickets. The farm tour will take in the:
- Community Allotments
- Market Garden & Land Partner Hub
- Habitat restoration areasLand partners Edinburgh Agroecology Co-op, Grass Roots Remedies, Lauriston Wildflowers, Rhyze Mushrooms, Wakibia & Co, willow grower Anna Liebmann, and the community growers in the allotments, garden and orchard, are all here producing a huge variety of fruit and veg, plant medicines, fungi, fibres and flowers.Lauriston Agroecology Farm is a local response to the challenges of climate change, biodiversity collapse and lack of access to fresh food for all. It is also part of a worldwide movement to put farms back into the hands of local communities, and sustain the ecosystem for future generations.Join us on this farm tour to hear all about it.Who is this for
We welcome all curious visitors, including total newcomers with no previous knowledge about farming, as well as farmers and growers and anyone interested in a career or volunteering in this type of work. The tour is aimed at adults or interested young people (younger children also welcome if it would be their idea of a good time!)Three things to know for your comfort
1. This an outdoor event - please dress for windy north Edinburgh.
2. We don't have public toilets at the farm. There will be limited access to the toilet in the community garden, with priority for disabled people. As this is a single cubicle composting toilet, it has a limited capacity - please help us out by going before you get here!
3. We don't have a cafe - you might want to bring snacks or a packed lunch to keep you going.Accessibility Notes
This is a walking tour across the farm, lasting around 1.5hrs, potentially also suitable for hardy all-terrain/off-road wheelchairs or mobility scooters, but not standard wheelchairs. The ground is rough, and will be wet and muddy in parts. There are no stairs. The toilet is large, single cubicle, gender neutral and level access. Groups for the tours may be large, but each tour group will be accompanied by 2-3 members of the team, to support questions and 1:1 or smaller group conversation.
