Historian Sinclair McKay and actor Jeffrey Holland tell the story of the real Home Guard, immortalised in our cultural memory by the beloved fictional platoon in Dad’s Army.

Sinclair reveals the courage, ingenuity and spirit of the wartime volunteers who stood ready to defend Britain, while Jeffrey shares unique insights from his long association with the TV series and its creators, Jimmy Perry and David Croft.

In conversation with Tim Hubbard, they explore how their affectionate portrayal of the Home Guard has kept this history alive for generations.
