We are delighted to be offered a guided tour of Brompton Cemetery with Emma Sparre-Newman, Manager.
We are grateful to Emma Sparre-Newman, for inviting us to this interesting resting place in West London.Brompton Cemetery is one of London's most beautiful Victorian cemeteries and one of the city's famous "Magnificent Seven" garden cemeteries. Opened in 1840, it is a Grade I listed historic site managed by The Royal Parks and serves as both a working cemetery and a peaceful public green space. More than 205,000 people are buried there among over 35,000 monuments and memorials.Emma, will take us on a private tour of the cemetery and allow us to visit the historic catacombs, which are not open to general public. We will discover and learn about this listed place and many of the notable people resting here, who include Emmeline Pankhurst, John Snow the pioneer of Epidemiology, many artists and military figures. The cemetery is looking magical as the work on horticulture, bio diversity and maintenance blends with restoration of the historic and notable elements of the cemetery, becoming an even more peaceful and reflective space which families are choosing for their resting places. The area we are covering is quite large so reasonable walking pace will be needed and comfortable shoes. There will be some resting areas along the tour, however it is a walking tour.
Meeting point: Entrance Cemetery, Southgate on Fulham Road at 11:50
Nearest tube West Brompton by the Northgate entrance approximately 15 minutes walk to the Southgate meeting point.https://www.ticketsource.com/images/bookNow/bookNow-black-large.png
