Ever wondered who helped shape Sheffield into the city it is today?As part of our 190th birthday celebrations, step back in time with us on a guided tour of Sheffield General Cemetery, a beautifully preserved Grade II listed site with over 180 years of history.Explore this unique Victorian Garden Cemetery, designed in the style of a landscaped park, and uncover the stories of the people buried here - from industrialist Mark Firth and reformer Samuel Holberry, to sweetmaker George Bassett and the founders of Cole Brothers (now John Lewis). With over 87,000 burials, the Cemetery is a remarkable gateway into the citys rich past.Youll visit the striking French-inspired catacombs, hear the tales behind our listed monuments and memorials, and see the recently restored Samuel Worth Chapel, now a thriving cultural space.After the tour, join us in the Samuel Worth Chapel for a complimentary tea, coffee, hot chocolate or soft drink.
