About

A crack team of medievalists - who so brilliantly revealed the secrets of the Hereford Mappa Mundi last year - turn their attention to the Bayeux Tapestry.

A crack team of medievalists - who so brilliantly revealed the secrets of the Hereford Mappa Mundi last year - turn their attention to the Bayeux Tapestry.

Anya Burgon, Emily Guerry and Amy Jeffs shed light on the imaginative context of the Tapestry, exploring its connections to other monumental artworks from antiquity to the eleventh century - works such as the Bernward bronze doors at Hildesheim in Germany, the Tapestry of Creation in the Cathedral of Girona, and the vast Tree of Life mosaic in Otranto, Italy.

In doing so, they show that the Bayeux Tapestry is far more than a political or historical document; it is a remarkable work of art that reveals the subtlety and reach of the cultures that created it.
