Fantasia Orchestra with Jasdeep Singh Degun

Composer and sitarist Jasdeep Singh Degun has been on an extraordinary run of successes: his work has earned him an Outstanding Achievement award from the Critics’ Circle and he was the Royal Philharmonic Society’s Best Instrumentalist in 2024.

His instinctive understanding of both Indian and European classical music paired have made him an extremely influential and sought-after voice.

He appears for a one-off evening with the Fantasia Orchestra made possible by Cheltenham commissions of new work in new arrangements by Harry Baker.

At the centre of the programme is In C by Terry Riley, a revolutionary piece that forever changed the course of music.

It’s built from a simple idea: short repeating musical cells layered by musicians in real time, creating something mesmerizing, unpredictable and full of life.

Riley’s work was deeply influenced by Indian classical traditions and we bring the connection to those roots into closer conversation by featuring sitar, tabla and a full orchestra.
