Students on our BA (Hons) Musical Theatre Performance degree programme have the opportunity to workshop and be a part of the development process for new musicals, working directly with the writers and creating original roles.
The initiative is led by Course Leader Andrew Wright, working with the support of partner companies Mercury Musical Development and Musical Theatre Network.
The rehearsal process takes place on Bognor Regis Campus with the culmination of the week being a live performance of the workshopped material in The Assembly Theatre.Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close is a musical adaptation of Jonathan Safran Foers novel, following Oskar Schell, a 9-year-old boy grappling with the loss of his father in the 9/11 attacks.
The musical takes on a scrapbook-like structure, interspersing scenes, songs, and letters as Oskar embarks on an emotional journey to understand his grief.
The story is told through Oskars eyes, using his vivid imagination and intelligence to explore inventive ways he believes could have saved his father. We are delighted to be enabling the research and development of this new British musical.
