Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' is one of his most popular plays, enjoyed for both its comic and lovable 'am-dram actor' characters, as well as its dark and devious world of fairies! This version, adapted by Suzanne Marston, is a compression of Shakespeare's original, with classic-contemporary design to represent the Court of Athens, where the story takes place. As the action moves from Theseus's Court to Athens' woods at night, the audience will literally follow the young romantic friends-and-foe (Helena, Demetrius, Hermia and Lysander), promenade style! 'Dreamers' will lead you from the site specific Atrium into the theatre, where Oberon and Titania's magical habitat will be created in such a way that highlights the climate crisis, resulting from their arguments. This is a land where litter glitters, and the style of performance will jump from physical theatre to pantomime! If you have difficulties with independently moving more than 20 metres as part of the audience, please do let us know in advance so that we can make the promenade experience work for everyone! Please note: it is possible to book specific seating when buying tickets in advance on this site, but this seating will only apply to the section of the Show in the Theatre; the initial seating will be non-ticketed.Friends and family of cast members should also be aware that the lead roles are triple cast, with different Chesterton actors taking the roles on different nights:11th November - Year 10/11 starring
12th November - Year 8/9 Cast starring
13th November - Year 9/10 Cast starringTickets cost 9 for adults and 7 for students 18 and under. The production will last approximately 2 hours plus an interval of 15 minutes. Trigger Warning: whilst the play is a comedy it contains references to death and destruction, as well as occasional 'bawdy' humour as intended by the Bard! The production will involve strobe lighting and loud music tracks accompanying singing.
Come and be part of this play-within-a-play-within-a-play...Confused? That's just the start of things to come! Embrace the chaos, hilarity and beauty of Shakespeare's drama in which 'the course of true love never did run smooth...' but all 'frolics' end in the 'sweet peace' of sleep!"Trip away, make no stay!
Meet me all by break of day..."
