The Drowsy Chaperone

When a devoted musical-theatre fan puts on the cast recording of his favourite fictional 1928 Broadway musical, his apartment is transformed as the record-and its gloriously eccentric characters-spring to life around him.At the centre of the story is glamorous showgirl Janet Van De Graaff, who plans to abandon the stage to marry her sweetheart, Robert Martin. Her producer is determined to stop the wedding, while a hapless best man, a pair of gangsters disguised as pastry chefs, an enthusiastic Latin lover, a bewildered hostess and Janet's decidedly tipsy chaperone create ever-increasing confusion.Winner of five Tony Awards, including Best Book and Best Original Score, The Drowsy Chaperone is an affectionate and brilliantly funny celebration of Jazz Age musical theatre. Packed with larger-than-life characters, spectacular musical numbers and gleefully preposterous twists, it explores the joy and comfort that theatre can bring when the real world feels rather less dazzling. This exuberant musical comedy is brought to you by the University of Chichester's Musical Theatre (Triple Threat) students as they enter the second year of their training.Discount
