The Lovekyn Consort - Here's the Summer

The Lovekyn Consort celebrates the natural world in seventeenth-century music by Purcell, Lanier and Lawes.
Originally conceived as a musical response to concern for the natural world, the musical style is typical of pre-Handelian English music in combining divisions [variations] over repeated chords and regular verse structures with greater freedom in instrumental forms. To match the darker aspects of nature, we have included Purcells Plaint and Didos Lament, interspersed with instrumental divisions and the imitation of birdsong and dancing.
