Tickets 10 / Under 18s 2
Please note - anyone under 18 years old must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times.Seamas was a big hit here with his hilarious Help! I Think Im A Nationalist show and we're thrilled to welcome him back to Mananan 50 with his new work, Community Service. Deftly deploying his trademark blend of sincerity and mischief, Community Service is Seamas Carey at his best; anarchic, joyful and accessible. Come and take part or just observe this interactive, inclusive experiment from an internationally award winning Cornish artist.Geoff is doing Community Service and he needs your help. He's been sent by The Council to implement five easy-to-follow steps for building an instant, flat-pack community, spreading social cohesion, harmony and collective joy. The only problem is: Geoff hates people ... So, will he succeed in forming a new community with a bunch of random strangers in just 60 minutes? Can you, the audience, help Geoff see the good in people again?Seamas Carey is a multi-disciplinary Cornish performer, musician, writer and social commentator whose work sits at the intersection of comedy, music and cultural inquiry. Deeply rooted in Cornwall yet resonating far beyond it, he is best known for dissecting big themesmasculinity, community, tradition, belongingwith disarming honesty and a wry sense of humour. A skilled multi-instrumentalist and composer, Seamas has created original music for theatre and film and has collaborated with a range of arts organisations including Kneehigh, Wild Works, Bristol Old Vic, Traveling Light Theatre and Sally Cookson. His solo work includes ;Help! I Think Im A Nationalist, Pagan Pandemonium, I Wish I Was A Standing Stone and Seamas Carey Meets His 4 Year Old Self. He founded Cornwalls first alternative male voice choir, Men Are Singing (20182024).In 2020 he won the Maurice O'Connell Bursary Award and exhibited a solo show at Tate St Ives.Fun, moving and uplifting; Community Service is a unique experience that brings people together and turns the onlookers into the entertainment. Inclusive & participatory (always optional) it's an experience that straddles the line between workshop and comedy show, in an unforgettable way. Community Service is an interactive, all-standing performance but don't worry, there will be chairs around the room for anyone who needs a breather! Please note - tickets are available to our Members from Saturday 11th April 2026 with a password, and will be available to the general public from Friday 17th April 2026 (without a password).
