Over a tumultuous forty year period when the whole of Europe was engulfed by the Napoleonic Wars, an elderly Parish Clerk in sleepy Syleham, called Charles Souter made periodic entries in his diary providing a rare and fascinating glimpse into the lives of ordinary working people who lived in the towns and villages along the Suffolk and Norfolk banks of the Waveney River.

Author Stephen Poulter and members of the Syleham History Society will share highlights of the 18 months of detailed research they recently completed into the people, places and events mentioned in the journal, that feature in their new book which will be available to purchase.
