Join us for the world premiere of three new compositions by artist and musician Dr Phil Archer, Neo-Medievalist composer and performer Laura Cannell, Electronic composer and Musician An-ting Chang, and artist and academic Nicola Simpson. This is a collaborative project between the Norwich University of the Arts, Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts, Norwich Cathedral and inspired by the Living by the Rule: Contemporary Meets Medieval exhibition at the Sainsbury Centre.Using reimagined medieval instruments, ritual objects, electronic music and vocal performances by a medieval drone choir, these improvisatory and participatory scores will lead the audience in a processional movement through the Cathedral, offering experimental and performative ways to encounter the medieval monastic temporalities of prayer and communal living and embodied contemporary spirituality. In an evening of deep ecumenism you will listen to and participate in the rule.Entry at the North West Door from 7.30pm.Performance starts at 8pm with an estimated duration of 100 minutes including a short 10 minute comfort break. Please note this event will require the audience to move around the Cathedral to follow the performance.
Seating will be available at performance sites. All three compositions have been made with the support of the Institute of Creative Technology, Norwich University of the Arts. With special thanks to Dr Ed Krcma, Dr Jessica Barker, the Revd Dr Peter Doll and Professor Kirk Woolford.
