An internationally produced playwright whose work is selling out in England will visit Derry/Londonderry Playhouse in June to give a public talk about his latest play, The Cramlington Train Wreckers, which will run here in July.Free entry
All welcome.Sponsored by the trade unions NIPSA, Unison, Unite, the Fire Brigades Union and by the Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU), Ed Waugh is bringing The Cramlington Train Wreckers to Derry/Londonderry Playhouse on Wednesday 8 July at 7.30pm.The Cramlington Train Wreckers is a true story set during the 1926 General Strike, when striking miners inadvertently derailed the Flying Scotsman. The train was carrying 281 passengers, but no one was killed and only one person was slightly injured.Eight striking miners from Cramlington in Northumberland were sentenced to 48 years’ imprisonment for the derailment.
