Bangor Castle, now the City Hall, dates from 1852. It was built for the Hon. Robert Edward Ward, landlord of much of Bangor. North Down Museum is housed in the former laundry and stables of the main building.
European Heritage Open Day is an annual free event. There will be guided tours of Bangor Castle offering a rare opportunity to see behind the scenes of this beautiful building. Your tour will cover the ground floor of the castle and include rooms such as the music salon, dining room, drawing room and library. Hear about the family who lived here and how they developed the demesne to include Castle Park and the lovely Walled Garden.Please note part of this tour is only accessible via a staircase that does not have a lift.
