His debut album Portrait of the Modern Jazz Quartet earned BBC Music Magazine’s Jazz Album of the Month, 4-star reviews across the UK press, and even broke into Japan’s jazz top-10.
Since then he’s toured nationally, premiered new work with Grammy-winner Alan Broadbent, and led Arts-Council-funded projects featuring international guests like Grant Stewart.A champion of the scene as well as a performer, he co-founded BopFest, now a major week-long London festival celebrating bebop and modern jazz.
Described by Clark Tracey as “one of the best vibes players this country has ever produced,” Steele brings a melodic, Milt-Jackson-inspired approach that has drawn praise from Benny Green, Joe Locke, Jason Marsalis and more.
