Suzannah V.
Evans debut poetry collection, Under the Blue, is an arresting and candid exploration of the beauty of life and the realities of care.
In it Evans brings together a series of fragmental prose poems, letters to her family in poem form and evocative postcards, delivering a multi-faceted meditation on intimacy and togetherness, sickness and pain, what can be said and what remains unsayable.Designed to be read from beginning to end to experience the intensity of its narrative progression, the collection is both beautifully written and deeply moving.Evans is tender, subtle and fierce in her exploration of all that cannot be expressed through language but must be attempted in any case, says Jasmine Gray, reviewer for the Poetry Book Society.Multi-award-winning poet, researcher and educator Evans will be reading from and discussing her collection.Evans is also author of Brightwork and Marine Objects /Some Language, and the editor of All Keyboards Are Legitimate: Versions of Jules Laforgue.
Her poetry has been awarded the Ivan Juritz Prize for Creative Experiment and a Northern Writers Award, and it has been performed at international festivals and broadcast on BBC Radio.
Under the Blue has been shortlisted for the 2026 Dylan Thomas Prize.
