Hidden Figures drawing workshop

'Hidden Figures' is a workshop involving drawing from plaster casts of statue heads that adorn Nottingham Trent University's Waverley Building through considerations of fantastical images, challenging the participant to transform what they see.

On display are male figures considered 'great' in the art world, so through visual challenges the workshop aims to encourage discussion around this and explore parts of art culture constricted by it such as the limitations of the female artist with mythological scenes.The workshop will be led by NTU Alumni' and The Square Gallery Alumni' Rita Parmar and Jayni Patel.Rita Parmar is a BA Fine Art alumna of NTU.

Now based in Manchester, she is pursuing an interest in curating, whilst still maintaining her creative practice in obscure landscape painting.Jayni Patel is also a BA Fine Art alumna of NTU.

Based in Sheffield, she explores worldbuilding of liminal environments within her practice, with an interest in contributing to public engagement of museums and galleries.This event forms part of NTU's contribution to The Art History Festival (5-11 October 2026), a nationwide programme celebrating art history across the UK.
