Christingle Service

Join in with traditional carols as the nights grow darker.

During the service every child receives the gift of a Christingle, a little lighted wax candle tied round with a red ribbon.

As the children receive these gifts, the lights are dimmed illuminating the Cathedral with candle light. Each element of a Christingle helps tell the Christian story and has a special meaning. The orange represents the worldThe red ribbon (or tape) symbolises the love and blood of ChristThe sweets and dried fruit represents all of God’s creationsThe lit candle represents Jesus’s light in the world, bringing hope to people living in darkness. This is a perfect service to bring children and families along to the Cathedral as part of your Christmas season.
