On a dark & stormy night, an ancient law insists that the will & testament of eccentric old Cyrus Carduelin must be read at midnight on the 21st anniversary of his death. And where-else but in the gloomy library of his deserted mansion that may or may not be haunted - in the presence of the squabbling, jealous survivors of his dysfunctional family, who cannot leave until morning.
There may even be a murderous monster lurking in the shadows!None of these cliches are new because it all started in the 1922 Broadway hit by John Willard, The Cat and the Canary. This invented the concept of the "old dark house" melodrama and presented it as thrilling, involving entertainment. Various films and theatrical productions have followed but now Double Act drama group are bringing their own unique interpretation to the stage presented in the spirit in which John Willard wrote it.This presentation of The Cat and the Canary has been adapted for Double Act drama group by local imaginative writer Dougal Dixon, bringing the action up to date & moving the setting from up-state New York to the storm blasted heathland above Wareham, giving it a contemporary local twist!Do the true riches of the Carduelin estate really reside in a lost cache of priceless diamonds? Is there actually a ghost in the wainscoting of the crumbling mansion? What is the truth behind the story of the killer monster?
