About

What was it like to know Daphne du Maurier not as a literary legend, but as a grandmother?

What was it like to know Daphne du Maurier not as a literary legend, but as a grandmother? Paul de Zulueta, Daphne’s grandson, offers a rare and intimate portrait of one of Britain’s most celebrated writers.

Drawing on private family archives and sharing his own memories, he reveals the woman behind the unforgettable stories, from Rebecca and Jamaica Inn to The Birds, and the family, influences and experiences that shaped her imagination.

In conversation with Laura Varnam, a leading expert on du Maurier’s work, they explore the contradictions of Daphne’s life: a writer born into privilege who defied convention, a woman surrounded by fame who guarded her privacy, and an artist whose stories continue to haunt readers generations later.

There will be a book signing after this event.
