Life With The Ribbon is a series of non-profit fundraising events founded and produced by Kimberley Hattersley-Barton (5x cancer survivor), using the performing arts to raise vital funds for charities supporting children, young people and families affected by cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.
Following the success of two previous charity gala events, which have collectively raised over 20,000 for multiple charities, Life With The Ribbon: Christmas Cabaret will take place on 29th November 2026 at The Alverthorpe WMC.
This festive evening of live entertainment will bring together talented professional performers and young dance talent to celebrate the magic of Christmas while raising vital funds for When You Wish Upon A Star - a charity that grants magical wishes to children living with life-threatening illnesses. Filled with festive music, entertainment and community spirit, the event aims to create an unforgettable evening while making a meaningful difference to the lives of others.
In recognition of her fundraising efforts, Kimberley was honoured to receive the Regional Pride of Britain Fundraiser of the Year Award 2025. This recognition has encouraged her to continue growing Life With The Ribbon into an ongoing fundraising initiative that celebrates resilience, showcases exceptional talent and creates a lasting impact within the community.
Every ticket purchased and contribution made helps When You Wish Upon A Star continue creating magical memories and providing invaluable support for children and families when they need it most. The Personal Story Behind the Event
Life With The Ribbon was inspired by Kimberley's own lived experience.
Since the age of just 13 months, Kimberley has faced five cancer diagnoses, including a rare childhood cancer, thyroid cancer and three battles with tongue cancer. The treatment that saved her life has also left her living with lifelong late effects, including kidney, ovarian and heart failure. In 2024, while preparing her second fundraising gala, her kidney condition progressed to end-stage kidney failure and she began ongoing dialysis treatment. In early 2025, she underwent major surgery following her fifth cancer diagnosis.
After months of recovery and speech therapy, Kimberley proudly returned to the stage to host her charity gala; having overcome yet another life-threatening challenge. Despite the ongoing realities of life saving dialysis and the lasting effects of treatment, she continues to embrace life and use her experiences to create hope for others. Her journey has shown that surviving cancer is about far more than reaching remission; it's about finding the strength to keep moving forward and turning adversity into something positive.Throughout her journey, charities such as When You Wish Upon A Star have provided hope, support and unforgettable experiences during some of the most difficult periods of her life. Their kindness inspired her to transform her own experiences into something positive by raising awareness and vital funds, so that more children and families facing life-threatening illnesses can receive the same support, opportunities and precious memories that meant so much to her.Join us for an unforgettable evening of festive entertainment, community spirit and fundraising, and help make Christmas a little brighter for children and families facing life-threatening illnesses.
