Phantoms of the Popera - Starrring G4

G4 is a British vocal group that gained widespread recognition after appearing on the first series of the television show The X Factor in 2004.

Known for their unique blend of classical and pop music, often referred to as "popera," the group quickly captured public attention with their powerful harmonies and operatic style.

Originally formed by four students from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, G4 was initially conceived as a busking group to earn extra money during their studies.The original lineup included Jonathan Ansell (tenor), Mike Christie (baritone), Ben Thapa (tenor), and Matthew Stiff (bass).

Their name, G4, comes from "Guildhall 4," a reference to the institution where they met.

The group auditioned for The X Factor with little expectation, but their classically-trained vocals and arrangements quickly made them stand out.

Although they finished as runners-up to Steve Brookstein, G4's popularity surged following the show.
