Bach St Matthew Passion

Join Canterbury Choral Society and The Hanover Band for Bach’s St Matthew Passion (sung in German) in the magnificent surroundings of Canterbury Cathedral.

Bach’s extensive choral writing, much of it written for his church of St Thomas in Leipzig, reaches its pinnacle in this mighty work.

Together with his earlier St John Passion, this St Matthew setting presents a more elaborate musical depiction of the crucifixion story, going far beyond anything that preceded or followed it.

It is a musical statement of Bach’s faith, expansive, heartfelt and wide-ranging, containing many of his finest choruses, solo arias and instrumental accompaniments.

The unique genius of Bach’s musical power and humanity shines throughout, providing performers and listeners alike with a profound intensity and deeply inspiring experience. With:Canterbury Choral SocietyCCS Youth ChoirThe Hanover BandRichard Cooke conductorSamuel Jenkins EvangelistTimothy Nelson ChristusEmily Armour sopranoRory McCleary counter-tenorNicholas Madden tenorJolyon Loy bass
