The venue has comfortable seating, parking and is fully accessible. We are thrilled to welcome award winning wildlife artist Ben Rothery back to Huntingdon. Ben is a favourite visitor at the bookshop, schools and Natural History venues for his amazing ability to capture the beauty and character of wildlife, talk about the planet, his life, work, passions as an Iron Man towing buses.Ben has written a number of books for Ladybird, continues to create prints and commissions, enthuse students and us with his workshops, fun stories and interaction with an audience.Ben will talk about his amazing work and share tips, bring some sketch work from his books to show around, talk about illustration and how it intersects with his work in conservation and science communication, followed by an informal Q & A and Booksigning. The event celebrates his new book Wild Wonders : Celebrating the planets most misunderstood, unloved and overlooked animals.Niche Comics Bookshop will have books available to purchase at the event and from the bookshop from 13th August. All welcome, however places will be limited so please book in advance if you can.Ben will be signing books during the event andevery attendee gets a beautiful postcard of art from the book.About his book - 'Wild Wonders : Celebrating the planets most misunderstood, unloved and overlooked animals' due out on 13th August 2026
in his new book, Ben Rothery sets out to inform and inspire children to look after all the animals on this precious planet not just the big, bold, beautiful ones, but the scary, ugly and utterly alien ones as well. From misunderstood animals like snakes and sharks, to detested creatures like maggots and hyenas, and from animals with unlucky associations like magpies, to those abandoned by us like orangutans, meet the animals that need and deserve our love. Also available: Hidden Planet, Ben Rothery's Weird and Wonderful Animals, Ben Rothery's Deadly and Dangerous Animals, Water World and Sensational Butterflies.About Ben:
Ben is a detail-obsessed illustrator and writer from Norwich, via Cape Town who likes pencils and heavy objects. He combines multiple processes to create intricate and delicate illustrations and repeating patterns full of fine detail and vibrant colour for a diverse array of clients.
Much of Bens work is inspired or informed by his love of nature, having grown up wanting variously to be a shark, dinosaur or David Attenborough crossed with Indiana Jones, only relatively recently settling upon Illustration as a compromise allowing him to bring those fantasies to life on paper.
Bens illustration practise and vivid fantasy life is run from a small but perfectly formed studio - Hidden Planet - in the heart of beautiful London which he shares with an unnecessarily large collection of very sharp pencils.
