The Laurence Singers invite you to an afternoon programme of music to brighten your day - a journey from sacred choral works and American folk song through to Broadway, jazz and the blues. The first half includes Andrae Crouch's "Soon and Very Soon," Graham and Lovland's "You Raise Me Up," and Elaine Hagenberg's setting of "O Love." A highlight of the programme is Bob Chilcott's Five Days that Changed the World, which sets to music five pivotal moments in history; from the invention of printing in 1455 to the first man in space in 1961.After the interval, things turn toward the stage and the standards: American folk song "New River Train," Billy Joel's "And So It Goes" (arr.
Chilcott), and a selection from Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera, including "Think of Me," "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again" and "The Music of the Night." The concert closes with a jazzy finish - Duke Ellington's "It Don't Mean a Thing" and "And All That Jazz" from Chicago.
