Winner of Birmingham Conservatoire’s Jazz Performance Prize, guitarist Frances Tulip is making a major impression with his technical prowess and creative spark and includes work with a number of high-profile musicians, including Paul Booth, Xhosa Cole and Byron Wallen.
The influence of contemporary guitarists such as Kurt Rosenwinkel, Mike Moreno and Lage Lund lend an additional dimension to his already fluent and inventive approach.
Francis’s Special Guest tonight will be the upcoming young UK trumpeter Mejedi Owusu.
Currently on a scholarship to New York’s famed Julliard School, Mejedi has made quite an impression, appearing with the likes of vocalist Kurt Elling and being invited to perform on pianist Emmet Cohen’s NY-based webcast “Emmet’s Place” which boasts over 1 million viewers!"Tulip…remarkably fluent contemporary player" Bebop Spoken Here; "Prodigious guitar skills" Emuli Jazz Blog; “Owusu’s…scalding trumpet…allowed us to feel what it must have been like to be ringside at Birdland in the early 50s” thebluemoment.com
