- Meter understanding meter, rhythm, and poetic syntax.
- Imagery capturing the most potent and vivid imagery.
- Symbolism understanding the value of poetic symbolism.
- The volta adding power and meaning to your poem.Through interactive, hands-on and thought-provoking exercises, the workshop will guide you through the process of creating a finished sonnet and give you the confidence and tools to move forward in your creative journey. The workshop is designed to be fun and informal, but truly useful, and is appropriate for both new poets and those with greater experience.Joss is a former journalist, the former head of Art and Culture at Lichfield Radio, and a published author and poet. She facilitates creative writing workshops and events across the county and runs a weekly creative writing group and bimonthly spoken word open mic event at the Lichfield Garrick Theatre. She is also a member of the theatres development group and a patron of local charities. Joss was recently appointed the Creative Director of the new Lichfield Fringe spoken word festival.In 2024, she was shortlisted for the post of Staffordshire Poet Laureate, and in 2025, she was inaugurated as a Freeman of The Worshipful Company of Smiths, Goldsmiths, Cardmakers and Ironmongers, Pewterers and Braziers, Plumbers, Cutlers, Nailors and Spurriers of Lichfield the citys ancient creative guild.
