From Observation to Abstraction - Summer School

In the first part of this course, we will making observational studies and sketches outdoors in a concertina sketchbook.

Taking themes from the Findhorn Eco – Village such as the Nature Sanctuary, The Gardens, The Universal Hall and Phoenix Café, whiskey barrel houses, as well as Findhorn Bay and Beach.

We will prepare our sketchbooks with washes and collage before using a range of drawing materials such as pencils, water soluble pens, posca pens, and layering with more collage of printed photographs from your phone taken on location.In the second part of the week, we will be developing your work from the sketchbooks into more experimental and abstracted drawings, prints, collages and paintings, using acrylic or oil.

We will also use many unconventional tools such as squeegees, stencils, spray bottles etc.

We will be learning about the importance of using and seeing tonal values and choosing a personal palette of colours to reflect your unique style of expression.

It will be experimental and playful, encouraging you to take many risks which will be ALOT of fun!Arrive with an open mind and no expectations and you’ll leave creatively fulfilled and inspired having returned home to the authentic expression of your ‘self’.Materials and refreshments provided but please bring along a packed lunch!
