The Bookery is delighted to welcome acclaimed Devon based author Kate Lord Brown to celebrate the launch of her sweeping new novel, The Silver Thread . Kate will be in conversation with friend of The Bookery Alison Sweatman for an evening exploring art, love, memory and the threads that connect us across time.Set across London in 1875 and Paris in 1985, T he Silver Thread intertwines the stories of Bel, a young designer whose appointment at the newly opened Liberty store introduces her to a world of exquisite Japonisme textiles and an unforgettable love, and Mira, a curator tasked with cataloguing the long sealed Paris apartment of famed designer Isobel Bright. As Mira uncovers the treasures and mysteries lodged within the apartments rooms, she becomes determined to learn what happened to Isobeland why her home was locked for so many years. Crossing oceans, cultures, and a century of history, the novel is a vivid and immersive exploration of creativity, courage and the enduring ties that bind people together.Kate Lord Brown was a finalist in ITVs The Peoples Author contest, and her novel The Perfume Garden has been published in nine languages and was shortlisted for the Romantic Novel of the Year 2014. In 2020 she was highly commended in the RNA Elizabeth Goudge Trophy. Kate has written editorial features, reviews and regular columns for Traveller, Conde Nast, Good Housekeeping, Writers News, Arts Business, Gulf Times, Woman, the Daily Telegraph, the Sunday Express and many others. After many years living overseas, she has returned to the wild and beautiful southwest of England, where she grew up.Alison Sweatman is a freelance voiceover artist and parttime librarian at Exeter Library. Her varied creative background includes theatre management, podcast creation for Oxford University museums, and founding Freehand Writers, supporting emerging authors. She curates an interview series at Exeter Library and has chaired several Bookery author conversations with clarity, warmth and insight.This event is part of The Bookerys wider programme celebrating reading, creativity and community during the National Year of Reading 2026.
The evening will include an audience Q&A, followed by Kate signing copies of The Silver Thread.
