Day After Day | Solo Exhibition

Day After Day is a solo exhibition by Cheltenham-based artist Emma Howell, created through the first eighteen months of motherhood and opening almost ten years after the death of her father.The exhibition brings together a new body of work exploring overstimulation, endurance, identity, grief and the gradual process of becoming someone new.

Across four distinct seasons, the paintings move through the intensity of early motherhood, the repetition of daily life, lessons in patience and loss of self, and the slow return of a more considered creative voice.Made through colour, movement, mark making and layered surfaces, the work is deeply personal while leaving space for the viewer to bring their own experiences to it.

At the centre of the exhibition is The Alchemy of Motherhood, a large canvas developed over several months as a record of love, exhaustion, transformation and change.The exhibition is dedicated to Emma's late father, Mark Howell, whose creative legacy remains an important part of her practice.
