Across the Square

There is a knock at the door of Millicent Garrett Fawcetts home at 2 Gower Street, Bloomsbury. Lady Ottoline Morrell has crossed from her home at 44 Bedford Square to express her condolences for the loss of a beloved sister. Across the Square depicts an imagined encounter between two sharply contrasting women, each of whom inhabits very different spheres. As patroness of the Bloomsbury Group, Ottolines vast circle of friends includes Prime Ministers and novelists, painters and philosophers whilst Millicent has dedicated her life to the crusade for womens suffrage.
