Mythical Map-Making Storytelling with Eric Huang

This session is a creative workshop inspired by the magical creatures, mythical lands, and East Asian legends from the Guardians of the New Moon chapter book series.

Meet author Eric Huang and discover how he became a writer.

See how a childhood love of mythology, magical creatures, and dinosaurs inspired the characters and stories in his books.

Attendees will then customise their own Lunar Zodiac animal and create a map of a magical land where theyll set off on an epic adventure with their lunar animal sidekick.For ages 6 to 10.This event is in person and is approx 45 mins for the session followed by a book signing.Eric Huang studied palaeontology.

Unfortunately, field work didn't live up to his Jurassic Park dreams.

So he temped for a while until he landed a job as secretary to the Creative Director of Disney Publishing, launching a career in books.

Since then, Eric has held editor and publisher positions on three continents, including roles at Penguin Australia and Penguin UK.Today, Eric is the author of the middle-grade fantasy series, Guardians of the New Moon, published by Little Tiger.

The first book in this series has been selected for the Blue Peter Book Club and is included in BookTrusts 2026 Bookbuzz reading list.

Hes also written several nonfiction books, including Up Close and Incredible: Dinosaurs published by Wide-Eyed Editions.Eric lives in London.

When hes not writing, he teaches on the Creative Writing and Publishing Masters programme at City St Georges University of London.
