Fergus Heron Photography, Ecology and Place

For the last seven years, artist and photographer Fergus Heron has concentrated his camera on the watercourses and woodlands near
Nairn. In this talk, Fergus shares his inspiration for the project, including W. Reid's painting River Nairn Looking Inland (1904) in the Nairn Museum collection, and the writings of Nan Shepherd, as well as his working process which involves long-term observation of places close to where he lives, an analogue field camera, available light and colour darkroom printing.Fergus Heron was born in London and currently lives and works in Brighton and Nairn. He studied at the Royal College of Art and the University for the Creative Arts. Exhibitions featuring his work have taken place internationally at venues including Tate Britain and the Museum for Contemporary Art, Roskilde, Denmark.Image credit: Fergus Heron
