Wright in Italy: New light on Joseph Wright's Grand Tour with Dr Jonny Yarker

Joseph Wright spent almost two years on the Continent at a critical stage in his career, yet it remains the least known period of his life.Reconstructing the art world of Rome in the 1770s this talk will give new contexts to Wrights time in Italy.

Using the evidence of Wright's Italian drawings and those of his travelling companion John Downman, this talk will explore questions of collaboration and influence in Wrights Italian work.This talk is presented as part of Joseph Wright Rediscovered: a series of talks organised by Derby Museums and the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art.Suitable for Adults (18+)Booking essential.
