Exeter-based saxophonist, multi-instrumentalist, and composer Harry Dowell has developed his style working with artists such as Lack of Afro, Mac Adams, and Jonah Hitchens.
He is now known across the region as a mainstay on the south west's jazz scene and one of the leading improvising musicians, having lead groups at jazz clubs and festivals from St.
Ives to Bristol.
Drawing from post-bop and contemporary jazz influences such as John Coltrane, Pat Metheny and Kurt Rosenwinkel, Harry brings passion, ambition and technical virtuosity, all underlying a thoughtful consideration for melodic communication. As the 23rd September marks the centenary of the birth of John Coltrane, Harry and his top-notch band will be celebrating by exploring his titanic legacy through his music.
The quartet touches upon key compositions and interpretations of standards from his time as a bandleader, including from the "lost album" released fifty years after his untimely death.Harry Dowell (tenor/soprano saxophone) Tom Ball (piano) Kevin Sanders (double bass) Josh Rose (drums)Presented by 12 Bar Music & Social. This is an 18+ event
